Washington Governor Allows Atheists to Protest During Christmas
Does the Constitution specifically state that atheists must be given the right to launch their protest against Christmas and religion during the Christmas season? Absolutely not! Atheists have the right to exercise their freedom of speech throughout the year. They are not limited to Christmas season. Granting them equal space and time that does not conflict with the celebration of Christmas is not a violation of the Constitution. What is our governor trying to do, start a riot or promote social disorder? Based on her interpretation of the Constitution:
v She would let anti-Muslim groups protest on the same day Muslims are celebrating their sacred holidays, even though the protesters would have the option of launching their protest on days that will not interfere with the Muslim’s right to celebrate their faith.
v She would let groups representing the Ku Klux Klan protest on the same weekend that we celebrate Dr. King’s Birthday, when other weekends are available?
v She would let Neo-Nazi Skin Head groups launch protests during Jewish holidays when they could do so on other days?
v Or she would let white supremacy groups launch their protest during Black History Month when they have eleven other months to protest?
Based on her interpretation of the Constitution, the governor is convinced that she would have a legal obligation to let white supremacists protest and share the same stage with President-elect Barack Obama during his inauguration, simply because his inauguration is sponsored by the government. This is ridiculous! She would never let a group come on stage and launch their protest against her when she is giving a speech. If she would not share the stage (or her events) with protestors, why does she force others to do so?
The governor should be promoting peace, understanding and respect for one another, not encouraging social disorder with in-your-face types of protests.
