A must read!!!

I am fortunate to have a copy of "When Our Homes Had Porches."  I've read and re-read it to my children (who are now teenagers).  It is a MARVELOUS book that will take you back to those years when the grownups in the neighborhood raised everybody's kid.

It was nice back then - when old ladies sat on their porches and waived as we rode our bicyles on the streets.  Nobody had stuffy landings with well manicured q-tipped looking topiaries, or a grandiose door that nobody ever uses.

The front poorch led to the front screen door and the door was always open or unlocked for any neighbor to walk right in.  It was nice then.  And your book brought back soooo many memories of a simpler time.

Thank you.

It is amazing.  I was sharing this same thing referencing how nice things used to be, just this afternoon.

In speaking to one of my classmates, we talked about how safe it was when we were small kids, and how we would be able to sleep at night with the windows opened and doors to our homes unlocked, car doors left opened with the windows left down with groceries on the seat and no one dared to bother them, or would dare borrow your car without permission.  How things have changed from when people had respect for one another.
